Condolences

Condolence From: GARY & ANNETTE HODDER
Condolence: Like others it was my good fortune to meet Jim by chance at our golf club. A valued friendship began. Jim was a happy, positive, generous and genuine guy. "Good value" as we Brits will say. The glue of our golfing group. His cheery personality a tonic for all that knew him.
Over time our friendship widened to include our wives and Annette and I enjoyed many lovely occasions in Jim and Sheena's company.
Jim's life taken too soon from this world but the memory of him will live on in our hearts and minds, providing cherished thoughts of a life well lived. Rest in peace dear friend.
Our sincere condolences to Sheena, Amy and family.

Condolence: Jim, where to begin!
Like so many of Jim’s close friends, we met at the Golf Course. I can’t remember the exact date but it had to be at least 20 years ago. I had just joined King’s Riding and bumped into Jim with one of his friends, Dean. Along with my friend Ken, we began golfing with Jim regularly. This soon morphed into a larger group of 6-8 regulars including Monty and Gary.
Jim enthusiastically accepted tee time booking duties. Diligently, Jim would phone Clublink at exactly 6AM a week in advance to secure our tee time for next week- he never missed a beat. Pretty soon our weekly golf get togethers evolved into social times with spouses and annual Holiday parties where we would exchange gifts and reminisce about what could have been on the golf course. I wasn’t there when Jim scored his hole in one but witnessed one of his other golf milestones. He had just scored a birdie on one of the more difficult holes at Kings Riding and announced with fanfare that he had now birdied every hole on the golf course!
Some of my fondest memories with Jim were our annual golf trips to Virginia. Leave it to Jim to analyze the Clublink financial statements and discover they owned a golf course just south of Richmond called Lake Chesdin. He proudly announced that as Clublink members we could play there for free. So every year we would venture down to get in some pre or post season golf. We had the course to ourselves. When I moved to the US fourteen years ago, we continued the annual tradition until Clublink sold the course. I would pick up Jim at the Baltimore airport and drive to Lake Chesdin. It was just the two of us discussing everything and anything on the golf course- it was a great time!
No Jim story would be complete without a discussion of Scotch. I had no taste for it but my wife Elizabeth does. During our Chesdin excursions, Liz and Jim would go on an on about peaty Scotch, single malt scotch, neat Scotch etc., etc. I didn’t get it but they had a blast. Whenever I came to Canada I would stop at Duty free to secure one of the better selections for Jim. There was often phone calls back to NY to ensure I got the right one. Upon delivery Jim would nod his approval and say- Yes, that’s perfect!
Oh, and don’t get me going about Jim and his trivia questions. I would need another page for all of his stories. You can ask Sheena about Bluetooth.
I was very fortunate to meet and get to know Sheena. I would often stop by at their house in Mississauga and reminisce about the good old days. I met Amy (the pride of his life) on a few occasions – oh how he beamed when he talked about his daughter!
Even when Jim was sick and in considerable pain he took the time to greet me when I dropped by. He’d soldiered through his ongoing treatments. Sheena managed his schedule and made sure he followed the doctors orders exactly. Sheena, you are amazing!
Sheena, Amy, I feel for your loss. We have lost a kind and very remarkable individual who will be sorely missed. I have lost a dear friend.

Condolence: Sheena, Amy and Jan — I was fortunate enough to meet Jim six years ago on the golf course and golf was shared our passion. Not only did I gain a terrific golfing companion, but I made a wonderful friend, a friendship that became even better by getting to knowthe three of you. I will miss that familiar voice saying, “Great drive, Paul...don’t f**k up the next one.” I will miss our lunches and dinners, and the great conversations about politics and world events. I will also remember the many times the two of us would meet to walk the golf course in March before the season. But most of all, I will endeavour to continue to live my life by the credo Jim shared with me...”live every day like you stole it.” God speed my friend...
