Alter Ego

So many memories of this wonderful irascible man. Our careers intertwined for fifteen years in AECL, and our friendship, Marlene and me with Bernadette and Bob for another 35 years. Bob and Bernadette that couple of words are the way we always think of them. Bob gave me the best advice of my life: as I was leaving AECL he said, leave your contributions in the PSSA, take a deferred annuity. So many stories but here is my favourite: Bob and I were in Mississauga in the tumultuous year of 1982/83 in meetings over the migration of the Ottawa Office of AECL CC to Mississauga. Our day done, we were having dinner in a restaurant in Streetsville before he was to catch a plane back home to Ottawa. As his time to depart neared he asked the waitress to call him a cab for the airport. She did and came back to say that the taxi would arrive in about 10 minutes. She said she had to give a name and didnt know what his name was so she said, I gave your name as Bob Canary, she thought Bob Brown was too obvious. Bob and I have laughed about his alter ego ever since.
