Obituary for Margaret Speirs

Margaret Speirs
April 3, 1928 - Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia
July 31, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with the saddest of hearts that we announce that Margaret Speirs passed away on July 31, 2020 at 11:11 pm. She passed at peace while sleeping in the comfort of her home with Danny and Coreen.

While she moved from Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia as a young woman her heart never left. She married Bob on November 18, 1949. During their marriage they lived in Montreal and the in the Greater Toronto area. She found a job in every place she lived and did her best in each one. She loved children and and her eyes lit up when she talked about being a foster parent. She would often say that she always had extra children in the house and would frequently call Bob at work and let him know another child was arriving. Her greatest work was helping residents in hospitals and senior care homes, She would visit with them and encourage them to bring Jesus, the holy spirit and Heavenly Father into their lives.

In April of 2019 she moved to Calgary. Danny and Coreen had the privilege of living with her the last 15 plus months of her life. Together they laughed, sang, danced, walked, played cards and made beautiful meals together every day. Her favorite place was sitting in the garden in the backyard. Weekly shopping trips and lunches, monthly mani/pedicures and travelling to Fairmont Hot Springs, Vancouver Island and home to Cape Breton rounded out the time together. Closer to the end she would say that our garden was beautiful but not quite as nice as the one she would find when she was with her Father in heaven.

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
May the rain fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Speirs on March 31, 2004. Her children, Sandra, Ronny (Vicki) and Daniel (Coreen); grandchildren, Angela, Brandon, Kevin, Ashley and Nicole; and great-grandchildren Emilee, Avalon, Tyler, Harmony Anthony and Faith will miss her more than words can say.

Visitation was held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
A Graveside Service will be held at Glendale Memorial Gardens, in Mississauga, Ontario.
The children request that in lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Salvation Army, Canadian Cancer Society or any charitable organization of your choice.
