Obituary for Joanna Elizabeth Grossi (Knill)

Joanna Elizabeth Grossi (Knill)
Joanna Grossi (nee Knlll) died suddenly on Wednesday December 13, 2017 at the age of 60. She is a mother, an aunt, a godmother, a sister, a daughter, a grandmother, a friend and a wife. She is survived by her boys Daniel (Michelle) and Andrew (Amy) and her newest friend and partner in mischief, Abigail. Her pride and devotion to her first grandchild was an extension of her passion and devotion to her family.

She is the daughter of Janet Agnes Knill (d 2013) and Bruce Thomas Hicks Knill (d 2017). Jo was born in England and immigrated to Canada in 1958 with her sister Fiona. In Montreal, her brother John joined the family. Her family moved to Toronto where Michael (d 2014) Sarah (McParland) and Mark completed her family. Joanna is survived by 15 nieces and nephews- Nicole, Jessica, and Katy (Fiona, Steve Davis), Colleen, Jack, Mary Kate and Sarah (John and Susan), Allie, Bruce and Claire (Michael and Kim), Emily, Janet and Megan (Sarah and Tim McParland) Diana and Thomas (Mark and Sara).

Joanna graduated from the University of Guelph and married Richard Grossi. Her career began in hospitality management. She, like her father, enjoyed accounting and that led to work in taxation and eventually accounting, finance and operations in industry. Her work ethic, her loyalty, and her passion for people were constantly on display in each role she assumed.

Jo sets a wonderful example for all those she leaves behind. Her time, resources and focus were constantly on her family, friends, and those less fortunate. A conversation with her would always begin with questions about our children, our spouses and then ourselves. It was hard work to get her to talk about her own life.

Her legacy is one of loyalty, leadership, family and stewardship- always leaving something better than when she found it. Her family is better for this stewardship. She shall be cherished and missed.
