Obituary for Tony dos Santos
On Tuesday, December 13, 2022 Tony dos Santos, loving husband and father of two children, passed
away at home, surrounded by his family at the age of 68. His incredible four year battle with a rare
cancer was fueled by love for and from his family. Behind his quiet acceptance was a gentle warrior.
Tony was born on November 17, 1954 in the Azores, Portugal. He was the eldest of two sons to parents
Antonio and Maria dos Santos (both deceased), brother of Paul dos Santos (Cecilia Perez), immigrated to
Canada in 1956 where he grew up with his best buddies in Toronto. Tony’s was a curious and
imaginative mind that loved the sciences, music, nature and food. At the age of 11 in a Toronto
laneway, a pair of binoculars and the moon ignited a passion for astronomy. A microscope opened
another new world and the love of chemistry and math. He received his degree in Chemistry from
Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and had a career in the adhesives and packaging industries. While in
high school he met his life partner Elaine; they married in 1978 and raised two children, Lynda (Dave)
and Michael, always surrounded with loving extended family on both sides.
Tony is survived by his wife and children, his brother, his aunts, cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and
friends. We will all miss him and his ability to always make each one of us feel special.
