Obituary for Stephen Charles Hare

Stephen Charles Hare passed away at Credit Valley Hospital following a short battle with cancer at the age of 68.

Steve will be deeply missed by his family, wife Pat and their two sons, Alan and Kevin, daughters-in-law Jena and Claire, and grandchildren, Abigail, Jeremy, Cameron, Liam and the late Angela. He will be missed by his sister Cathryn, brother-in-law Bill Adams and nieces Meghan, Shannon, Kim, Karen and extended family. Steve is predeceased by his sister Susan.

Although taken from us too soon, Steve had a happy life with family, friends and work. Following more than 40 years with the Peel District School Board, Steve retired as a highly respected manager of Planning & Enrolment in 2013. Over the next eight years of retirement, he enjoyed playing golf with fellow co-workers, cousins, and friends. He and Pat also enjoyed travelling and exploring new destinations.

Steve grew up in Port Credit where the Hare family has been established for many generations. His father (Alan) and uncles served in the second world war, participating in the D-Day invasion on Juno Beach. His grandfather, Robert Williams, was the chief chemist at the original St. Lawrence Corn Starch Company. His mother (Shirley Palmer) was a teacher and retired as an elementary school principal from the Peel District School Board in 1984.

Steve will be remembered as a funny, kind, caring and loving person. He will be missed by everyone that had the good fortune to know him.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
