Obituary for Robert William "Bob" Brown

ROBERT (BOB) BROWN

Peacefully at Mississauga Hospital after a brief illness. His wife Bernadette was at his side. Bob is survived by his brother Denis (Marilyn) and sister Shirley, all of Winnipeg. Predeceased by his sister Linda. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Mississauga Hospital staff is appreciated for their empathetic and professional care. If desired, a donation may be made to Trillium Health Partners Foundation, the University of Guelph Pet Trust Fund or a charity of choice. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date.

Bob was retired from Human Resources and Administration roles at Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL). His career took him from Pinawa, Manitoba to Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Cape Breton, Ottawa and back to Mississauga. It was in Bob’s nature to give back to the community in any way he could. He was a founding member of the AECL Retirees’ Association and counselled retirees on insurance and death benefits. Bob enjoyed his many activities with the PROBUS Mississauga South Club. These included attending meetings, telephone committee, pub lunches, playing bridge, day trips, the PROBUS Investigators of Single Malt Scotch (PRISMS), travel and supper clubs. He served a term as Treasurer. Bob volunteered for many years at the Mississauga Hospital in the Park ‘n’ Ride, Hospitality and Information Desk Services. An avid sports fan, he golfed and curled for most of his life, especially enjoying his time on the course with Seniors’ Golf. There was not a sport that he did not enjoy watching.

Bob was extremely loyal to all his long time friends and treasured keeping in touch and keeping up with how they and their families were doing. He was a 30-year veteran of annual lobster parties on the Ottawa River. He enjoyed meeting new people and chatting with neighbours.

Seven furry friends often tested his patience throughout his married life. He enjoyed his walks and cuddles with his Cairn and Australian Terriers.

Bob found it increasingly difficult to get around over the past few years. He remained amazingly positive and it is for this he will be most remembered.
