Raffaele “Ralph” Cesario, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 9th, 2020 at St. Michaels Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. Raffaele is survived by his devoted wife Ida, his loving son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Jessica and his two adoring grandsons, Ethan and Oliver. Raffaele was predeceased by his much-loved daughter Vincenza in 2018.

Raffaele was born on February 2nd, 1934 in Montalto Uffugo, Calabria, Italy to Giorgio and Vincenza Cesario. Raffaele trained as a barber in Italy. After immigrating to Canada in 1960, he owned and managed barber shops and salons throughout the GTA. Raffaele met the love of his life, Ida in Toronto and they married in 1964.

Raffaele had a love for winemaking, which was inherited from his father. He was an avid Formula 1 fan, and loved to travel. He and Ida took many memorable trips around the world. To Raffaele, nothing was better than enjoying great food and wine with friends and family.

Raffaele always taught the importance of kindness, honour and respect to his children and also to his two grandsons. He often shared with them the lessons and anecdotes that he had learned from his own father in Italy and was often heard beginning these lessons using the words “my father always said…” Raffaele’s kindness was infectious and people were drawn to his welcoming nature. He often made instant friends out of those that he would meet.

Unfortunately, there will be NO VISITATION OR OPEN MASS due to the current COVID-19 restrictions and case numbers. A celebration of life will follow post-COVID.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Zia Ida, Frank, Jessica, Ethan and Oliver, we are so sorry the loss of the kindest man there was, Zio Raffaele. Zio Raffaele was a true gentleman, so emotional and caring and he always showed his love. Not to mention the best dressed and best dancer. We will cherish all of the memories made with him in our hearts forever and will miss him dearly. With love, Rachel and Aaron

A Tribute to Raffaele Cesario

Such a wonderful husband , father, grandfather and friend
Such a graceful soul that has touched our lives and hearts to no end
Your kindness and love is what made you so special and set you apart
Your selflessness and caring touched all of our hearts
You never hesitated to help others in need
Putting your problems aside and giving kind advice was your good deed
We are so heartbroken to lose you, to have to let you go
You are now on another wonderful journey we know
To reunite again with family and friends
For you are in a beautiful place where you have found peace once again
Forever you will be loved, sadly missed, always in our hearts, never forgotten

Mr. Cesario was simply a wonderful man. Always smiling. Always with a sage anecdote. Always giving of himself. I’ve known him for over 30 years due to my friendship with Frank & it was my pleasure & honor. I recall all the wonderful dinners/talks when he lived in Malton for many years. Always inviting. His door was always open for me. I’d actually love talking with him more than Frank at times! He was such a great man, husband & father....

He was sincere, humble & genuine in nature. He loved his family more than anything in this World & it vividly showed everyday. He always used to tell me to call him Ralph- but I never could do so.

He was a man that I greatly respected & he will always be Mr. Cesario to me. He’s an Angel in Heaven now. Still with us. In our hearts ♥️

Always xo
