Condolences

Condolence From: Jane Sanders
Condolence: I wish I had seen those pants! Connie tried valiantly to get me to turn to the dark side and fall in love with Kaffe fabrics. I came close but only his plaids. I hope her place in heaven is full of kaffe fabric with the newest sewing machine. I am a better quilter because of what i learned from Connie.

Condolence From: Ardy Verhaegen
Condolence: Norman and Laurie and the grandchildren. Our condolences to you and the family. Connie was a lovely being who had a difficult life, in many respects, that she faced with pluck and determination. I first met Connie at a Post Polio conference close to thirty years ago and I soon became her massage therapist. Besides the shared Post Polio history we had much else in common. In her will Connie left me a quilt titled "Look at The Trousers." It was made entirely of fabrics designed and sold by Kaffe Fassett, whose materials Connie loved for their bold and colourful motifs. In 2000 Connie wore trousers made of Kaffe's fabrics to a fabric show. Kaffe was the featured speaker and he noticed her, exclaiming "Look at the trousers!" A photo of the two of them together. Later Connie disassembled the trousers and with those, and more of Kaffe's materials, made a quilt. Connie had the photo printed on fabric and sewed on the piece with the title mentioned. In 2013 she took the quilt to another conference at which Kaffe was speaking and he signed the quilt on the photo portion. I received this because I know Kaffe from my days in the 70's working at Nepenthe restaurant, which his family operated in Big Sur, California. I have related this story to Holly Fassett, Kaffe's sister, who appreciated it very much, as I do the quilt and Connie's generosity. It was difficult, as Connie's massage practitioner to watch Connie suffer as she did towards the end. She made a courageous choice and we respect her for this. May she live long in our memories as she will in mine.
