Obituary for Krystyna "Krys" Donald

Krys Donald

It is with great sadness that the Donald family announces the passing of Krystyna “Krys” Donald ( née Gaweda) on March 15, 2023 at the age of 71 years at the Trillium Health Partners Mississauga Hospital. Beloved wife of Richard “Rick” Donald and loving mother to Stanley Richard Donald.

Predeceased by twin sister Danuta “Diane” Kapalowski exactly six months earlier; also brother
Stanley Gaweda (Linda), nephew Terry O’Brien Jr. and cousin John Gaweda (Jay) as well
as her parents, Jadwiga and Stanislaw Gaweda and parents-in-law, Minnie and William Donald.

Lovingly remembered by her sister, Barbara O’Brien (James T.) and best friends Georgina and Allan, cousins Ziggy Gaweda (Nelle), Richard Gaweda (Jutta) and Grace Gault. Krys will be dearly missed by all of her sisters-and brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews, great- nieces and nephews, lifelong friends, relatives and neighbours.

Krys was born in Dunnville, Ontario in 1952, 25 minutes behind her twin sister, Diane who jokingly used to say that Krys “pushed her out” first. She grew up in Toronto and attended Our Lady of Peace Catholic School.

In the late 1960s, Rick, the love of her life, was out with friends at the Hollywood Hotel when a certain blonde bombshell walked in. He was immediately smitten and the rest is history. They married in 1974 and welcomed their baby boy, Stanley a year later. This little family was her core and calm from then on.

Krys was well known for her distinctive laugh, impeccable style and for loving everything pink. She loved to shop and had the stamina to do so endlessly. She helped anyone in need by passing things on, which allowed her to keep joyfully shopping!

Selfless and with a huge heart, Krys was always thinking of others and was very generous of her time and resources. Even when in hospital, she watched out for the other patients and their well being without thinking about herself.

Our family is heartbroken, but takes great comfort in her devoted Catholic faith and knowing that she is finally pain-free and at peace, reunited with Diane and other family members in her heavenly home.

Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 24th, 2023 at 12:30pm at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. 11 Peter Street. Port Credit in Mississauga, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the church are welcome.

A special thank you to the ICU doctors and nurses at Trillium Health Partners Mississauga Hospital for the dedicated and compassionate care provided.
