Obituary for Kevin Richard Smith

Kevin Richard Smith, age 61 of Mississauga, Ontario passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on February 2, 2022 after a valiant two year battle with complex medical conditions.

Kevin was born on April 26, 1960 in Mississauga, the youngest son of Rose (nee Mullins) and Kenneth Smith. He grew up in Port Credit attending various public schools, Cawthra Park Secondary School and later graduating twice from Humber College (‘81 Chemical Tech and ‘90 Health & Safety).

Kevin was a proud Canadian who shared his passion for sports and music with his family and friends celebrating both at the cottage for Canada Day and at the backyard Hockey Day in Canada “shed parties”. Kevin loved to spend time at the cottage his parents built on Wollaston Lake. Often fishing, BBQing or sitting on the dock with a cup of tea or a Scotch listening to music. He had a passion for projects, big or small. He was happiest when he was busy working on something in his shed, tinkering with things around the house or doing his own car maintenance and even hand washing his cars in the driveway.

Kevin’s career began in food production with Canada Packers and his interest in health and safety led him back to school to begin another career. His commitment to the health and safety of others was always echoed in his personal life to family and friends. While Kevin never let his work define him as a person, his long career with WSPS (Workplace Safety & Prevention Services) gave him the opportunity to teach others and know he was making a difference in the safety and security of workers and their families.

Kevin will be forever missed, loved and remembered by his wife of 36 years, Cynthia Bird and daughter Alison (Daniel Griffin) and son Stuart. Kevin grew up in Port Credit with brother Wayne (Wendy) and was very close to his sister Carloyn Ellis (Mac), nephew Ryan Ellis (Cara Donnery) and niece Amy Ellis. Kevin adored his great-niece Peyton Ellis and great-nephews Oliver Ellis and Leo Van der Voorst. Kevin was also loved by his sisters-in-laws Elaine Stock (John) and Liz Salt (Dave) as well as his nephews, Christopher Stock (Vanessa) great-niece, Everly and Thomas Stock.

Kevin was predeceased by his parents Rose (nee Mullins) and Kenneth Smith.
