Obituary for Julia Mary Yorke

Julia Mary Yorke (nee Johnson) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, in Mississauga at the age of 88. Julia was the beloved wife to Frank Yorke (deceased) and loving mother to Michael, Rita (deceased), John, Paul and Maureen and their spouses Mary, Tammy and Robin. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Jennifer, Jessica, Michelle, Kristen, Hannah, Madeleine and Matthew and 3 great grandchildren: Blake, Harrison and John Mark.

Julia took pride in being a homemaker, and was a wizard with home economics. To her credit, she was able to stretch her food budget to feed a family with three growing boys. Baking was her real pleasure, and most nights there was a homemade dessert to enjoy as everyone shared stories about their day.

Julia enjoyed knitting, and made the softest blankets and baby clothes for her grandchildren. Years later, after joining a knitting club with good friends in her building, she turned her talents to knitting warm vests for babies in developing countries – one of the many charities that they supported.

Julia loved to feed the birds and squirrels in her backyard, read abridged books (she was pragmatic about not wasting time), and sent frequent letters to her grandchildren. She had a great sense of humour, but would sometimes use the ‘knuckle’ when things got out of hand! She loved us to the moon and back, and she will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a favourite charity.
