Obituary for Joyce Forth

Joyce Forth

April 6, 1930- March 1, 2022

It is with great sadness the family announces Joyce Forth (nee Wither) passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Ab Forth (2009), parents Andrew and Gladys Wither, brother Neil, dear friend Barbara Compas, nephew Larry Argue and brother-in-law Robert Carlson. To celebrate her life are her children; son Bruce (Cheryl), and their children Katie (Derek), Alex (Jeff), Andrew (Carley). Daughter Sharon Abel (Stephen)and their children Laura and Virginia (Dylan). Daughter Laura J. Forth (James). Remembered dearly by sister Jeanne Carlson and sister-in-law Verda Wither.

Joyce grew up in Winnipeg attending Isaac Brock school and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute. Born into a musical family, Joyce and her mom played piano along with her father and sister on old-time fiddle and her brother on drum. She loved music, especially choral singing and sang in a children’s choir at a very young age Saturday mornings on the radio, with Eaton’s Good Deed Radio Club. Over the years, Joyce sang alto in many church and choral groups and was active in amateur theatre.

Ab’s job transferred the family to Mississauga in 1970 and they became active members of Stephen’s on-the-Hill United Church, Joyce a charter member of the Fidelios unit and along with Ab, singing in the chancel choir.

Joyce and Ab loved being grandparents, and spent many happy hours watching t-ball, baseball, hockey, rugby, dance recitals, cheerleading and figure skating.

Joyce and Ab, happily married for 57 years, were a devoted couple and seldom seen without each other. Together they enjoyed music, dancing, and golf, and spent 12 happy winters in Florida, making new friends and enjoying the sunshine. In August 1997 they moved to an Oakville condo and were busy with the social and gardening committees, Joyce on the board of directors, for six years, two years as president.

Joyce loved life and was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority since 1962. Sorority was especially important to Joyce, as it formed a central point in her life for learning, giving and friendship. An excellent public speaker, she was invited to speak at many occasions, some happy, some sad.

Joyce and Ab made life long friendships as members of the Clarkson Music Theatre, appearing in shows at the Meadowvale Theatre and the Christmas choir.

Joyce moved to Walden Circle Retirement Home after Ab’s death and enjoyed every day of life there taking part in all the activities and of course making wonderful friends amongst the staff and residents in her new home.

Joyce gathered friends wherever she went and was thankful for all the love she received over the years from sorority, church, CMT and Walden friends, especially since Ab’s death. The family is especially grateful for that support as well as the compassionate care she received while at Credit Valley Hospital.

Joyce will be missed for her contagious smile, outgoing personality, sense of humour, as well as Christmas puddings, mince tarts and especially lemon pie, Ab’s favourite. She loved butterflies, decorated her home with them, and hoped that people would think of her when they see one.

According to Joyce’s wishes cremation has taken place and her ashes will join Ab’s in the Memorial Garden at St. Stephen’s. A celebration of life will be held when friends and family can be together.

Joyce’s wish for any donations was to support the general fund of St.Stephen’s on-the-Hill United Church, 998 Indian Rd, Mississauga, ON L5H 1R5. The link below can be used. (copy and paste the link)
