George Henry Williams, born Nov 25, 1930 in Long Branch Ontario, to Marjorie (nee Redding) and George Williams Sr., passed away peacefully at Trillium Hospital surrounded by his family, in his 89th year.
The graveside memorial will be held at SpringCreek Cemetery, 1390 Clarkson Road N, Mississauga, Ontario, L5J2W5, on Sept 7th, 2019 at 10:00am.
If desired donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer’s Society, Ontario.
George Henry Williams was predeceased by his beloved sister Thelma Jean Dancy and both his parents.
He was the devoted husband of Sylvia Williams, (nee Severn) and loving father of Jeffrey Paul Williams, (Jaki), Russell George Williams, (Sheri) and Karen Williams and proud grandfather to Tyler, Margaret and Abigail Williams and Emma Skillings.
George or “Bud” as he was called by most of his friends grew up in the Long Branch, New Toronto area. During his young teenage years he was living with his sister and mother in the Marie Curtis Park area eagerly awaiting the return of his father from his time in the North Atlantic during the second Great War. When he did return they were able to finally install indoor plumbing. He loved nature, hiking, camping and adventure, earning the King Scout designation. His teenage sports passion being football and hockey.
He married Sylvia Severn in 1954, also from the Long Branch/Alderwood area and they settled in a small home that he built himself in Long Branch. As his family came, first with Jeff and Russell, they decided more room was in order and moved to Sherway in Cooksville where his daughter Karen was born. Sylvia was moved into a home in 2012, (Alzheimer’s), and he diligently assisted in her daily care and feeding. As his health deteriorated with age he found great comfort, friendship, love & support with Betty Cooey.
Bud was an insurance agent/broker for most of his working life. This was only a way to get at his passion, boat building and sailing, being on the open water. Over his life he single handedly built numerous sail boats from small dingys to large open water sail boats. He was a great captain and generous host.
When he was not sailing his spare time was spent with Sylvia visiting and playing with his grand children, whether it be hockey, archery, fishing or just hiking, he loved being with them. He always had a vegetable garden in the yard that provided fresh vegetables through the summer months.
Never one to sit still, he was always going, busy with coaching sports teams, running a trailer park, or just working with wood, which he was a very detailed carpenter making most interior trim parts for his sail boats. Any one that knew Bud, most likely had the experience of a relaxing sundowner in the cockpit in one of the many prized boats.
George “Bud” Williams will be fondly remembered by his many friends and always be in the hearts of his family.
