Obituary for Bernard Maurice Bird

Bernard Maurice Bird
Bernard Maurice Bird
January 25, 1928 – August 19, 2020
Dad was married to the love of his life, Barbara for 60 years. He has been missing her for the past 6 years. Barney and Barbara had 3 children, Douglas, Leslie and Mark (Theresa). Sadly his beloved daughter left us 16 years ago which devastated him. He was always there for his immediate and extended family.

He leaves behind Douglas and his children Lauren (Mike) and their son Ellis, Adam, and Alexander. He also leaves his son Mark (Theresa), and their children Rebecca (Matt) and their son Austin, Jason (Alyson) and Emily. His two great grandchildren Ellis and Austin sadly will miss learning Papa’s great party tricks and how to talk like Donald Duck.

Bernard was the son of Bernard Bird and Otalie Stewart. He is predeceased by his brother Tom and his sisters Bernice and Lorraine. He is survived by his brother Joe (Sally) and sister Heather (John).
He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.

Bernard was nominated for the Order of Canada in the business section for his work in developing photo identification for every police force in Canada. He invented the delayed time lock used on every vault door in banks across this country. He was a trained draftsman and a watchmaker.
Talk to anyone that knew Dad and you will hear a story that would put a smile on your face. His personality was larger than life. We remember the night a few years ago when the alumni of the old ORFU Balmy Beach Football team were invited to come down on the field at halftime of an Argos game to receive their 2 Grey Cup banners which had never been presented. He was so proud. Dad was a long suffering Leafs, Blue Jays and Argos fan. He loved his scotch and Luciana Pavarotti . Sadly he would play his opera records much to the chagrin of everyone else in the house.

We will all miss you Bernard, Bernie, Barney, Dad and Papa. We will cherish your memories and love. You are now at peace with Barbie and Leslie. Love always, rest in peace.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Christopher’s RC Church in Clarkson Bernard Maurice Bird
