Obituary for Barbara Therese Smith (Kerry)

Barbara Therese (Kerry) Smith
Barbara passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Erin Mills in Mississauga, on Wednesday October 30th, 2019, at the age of 90 with family by her side.

Born Barbara Therese Kerry to parents Richard and Gwen Kerry in Pontnewynydd, Wales. Wife of the late Peter Smith, beloved mother to son Andrew and his wife Cathy and cherished Nana to Michael and Kristen. Dear sister to the late Pat Carter and her husband the late Tony Carter. Much loved aunt to Kerry-Jane, David and Jonathan and “adopted” aunt to Liz.
Barbara was born May 15th ,1929 in Wales, where she grew up and trained to be a teacher in England. In 1954, Barbara came to Canada after teaching in England for 4 years. Barbara was welcomed to Canada by many people and they became lifelong friends, especially the Redner family in Belleville, who adopted her as their third daughter from England. Barbara married Peter Smith in 1957 shortly after Peter arrived in Canada from England. Barbara continued teaching in many schools including Lynwood, Woodlands and ending her career as a Resource teacher at TEAM School in Mississauga.
Barbara never lost contact with all her family in England, including the Gorvin Aunts, cousins, nieces/nephews and family whom she dearly loved visiting. Barbara enjoyed scrapbooking family history, gardening, flower arranging and watercolour painting. Her great joy was spending time with Andrew’s family and old friends.
The family would like to thank the Sunrise of Erin Mills staff for their wonderful care of Barbara in her final few months, making her comfortable and for their continued loving support. They would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at Trillium Credit Valley hospital, in particular Dr Reed, and Dr. Perkins and the staff at the Renal clinic.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Trillium Health Partners Foundation or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
