Obituary for Angus Sylvester MacEachen

Angus passed away peacefully at home on March 26th 2021 after a long battle with cancer. As was his way, Gus managed his illness with strength, positivity, and resilience. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 62 years, Caroline, his son, Barry, (Rose Stillie) and daughters Shawna (Dave McKenna), Michele (Pat Burke) and Valerie (George Esper) and his 6 grandchildren, Caroline, Lauren, Matthew, Egan, Sarah (Bryan Yu) and Matt, and his younger siblings Malcolm (Barbara), Donald A (Katherine), Joe (Cecilia), Isaac (Jackie), Mary (Eldon Pelerine) and Anne (Gerard Beaton). He is predeceased by his parents Duncan and Annie Mae MacEachen, his sisters Teresa, Roberta and Kay and his brothers Duncan and John. Angus will be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Angus was born in Hawthorne, the oldest of 12 children and spent his childhood in Port Hood Nova Scotia before moving to Ontario where he met and married his lifelong love, ‘Momsie’. He was known for his woodworking skills and antique clock collection but most of all, Angus will be remembered for the good, kind, loving and totally accepting man that he was. He didn’t like being the center of attention and he always made people around him feel welcomed, comfortable and valued. Special thanks to the lovely care workers from Integracare who supported Angus and the family during his final few weeks at home.
A mass will be held at St Dominic’s Church after Easter. There will be a get together for family and friends at a later date where we’ll all raise a glass and celebrate Gus’s life.
