Obituary for Albert Benning

Albert Benning (also know as Al and Appie) was a witty, generous true family man who put a smile on the faces of so many over the years. He left this world on May 21, 2022 at the age of 85 after a courageous journey with an illness. Al was born in Wezep, Netherlands and immigrated at only 19 with his wife and first born to Canada in 1956 to build a new life. A proud draftsman for 50 years, Al had never ending wisdom and stories that he passionately shared with others. He loved Florida vacations, annual trips back to Holland, gardening, Sunday dinners (as long as he could cut the meat), playing tennis and soccer, all terrible Toronto sports teams, his vegetable garden and telling his repertoire of jokes. He loved to build and fix things and was passionate about finances.
Al is survived by the love of his life, Dicky, his children Tineke (Chris), Stephen, Alice, his grandchildren Courtney (Kevin), Whitney (Ali), Jessica (Conrad) and Steffi, his great-grandchildren Cooper, Alexis, Mekhi and Kamari and his siblings Janny and Gary. He was a man who made the lives richer and hearts bigger of everyone he met.
Inquisitive and fighting until the end, Al would have wanted to celebrate life with everyone and we welcome you on Friday, June 3rd for a memorial visitation at Skinner and Middlebrook from 2-4pm followed by food, refreshments and memories at 54 Suburban Drive.
