Obituary for Adriana Ernst

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Adriana Ernst, on February 17th, 2022.

Beloved mother to Paul (Desmarie) and Jeanne
Cherished Oma to Amarissa
She will be fondly remembered by her surviving extended family.

She was born in 1941 during WWII in the Netherlands. Her family survived occupation of the Netherlands. Her memories of the war were of struggling for food. After the war, her family settled in Rotterdam. She had survived her 2 sisters and brother. She was the last of her immediate family.

She graduated high school and worked as telephone operator after high school. She met our father August Ernst in 1959. He played in a band and asked her to dance. They started dating.

In 1962 my father and mother married and a year later she gave birth to Paul.

Adriana’s journey continued over the Atlantic Ocean. Where her and our father came to Canada via an Atlantic cruise liner. Our parents settled in Port Credit and a couple of years were able to purchase their first house. In 1967, Adriana gave birth to Jeanne.

Our parents loved sport. Their love for sports continued in Canada. August, our father, coached soccer and Adriana helped him and the team, by organizing the games and getting the kids to the games.

Unfortunately, in 1978 our father passed away suddenly. Adriana found herself as a single mother. She struggled because there was no family support for her here in Canada. But she kept moving forward. She found work and continued to work and support her children always providing and supporting them in their journeys. She retired after 32 years.

She enjoyed her retirement after years of looking after her children. She had return for visits back to the Netherlands to see family and friends. She puttered around her house and her community.

She is survived by her son, daughter, and grand-daughter.

She will be missed.
