Obituary for Barry Robert Morgan

BARRY MORGAN

Peacefully in Mississauga on January 19th, 2015 at the age of 85. Predeceased by his beloved wife Marian just a week earlier, and his first wife Beth. Survived by daughters Barbara (Bill) and Elizabeth (Len); grandchildren Hayley (Rory), Alexander, Elliott, Daniel (Audrey), Mark, Alexandra and Katelyn. Barry started his broadcasting career in 1951 at CFAC, Calgary, moving on to CFPL, London, in 1954. Then, in 1959, he was hired by the legendary Harry Boyle in Toronto. Barry’s CBC credits as writer, editor, producer, director and program exec spanned five decades. They range through features, documentaries, magazine shows and dramas: Assignment; Project/Venture; The Observer; Confederation Specials: Five Years In The Life; On The Evidence; Sunday Supplement; Vanishing Point; Morningside Drama; Sunday Showcase; The Mystery Project.
Unassuming, considered and considerate, Barry quietly got on with the job. He took time with people. He could adapt his skills to TV, but his heart was always in Radio. An expert at listening to the listening of others, he would invariably fly with what he’d heard. Barry became the conscience of the place, and his passing marks the end of an era.
